Josanna {Bellingham Newborn Photographer}

I had the pleasure of photographing sweet Josanna and her three big brothers yesterday. It just so happens that Josanna’s five-year-old brother Brady was the first newborn I every photographed.

This is  really embarrassing, but in the interest of keeping it real and encouraging other aspiring photographers out there, here are images of her older brothers.

October, 2007.

Brady, the first newborn I ever photographed. Can you believe his mom let me come back and try on her next baby?

July 2009.

Not a whole lot better. Apparently I was working on posing and ignoring the lighting all together…

February 2011.

Okay…but I think it’s safe to say I’m still working on my craft and growing artistically.

And one more of sweet Josanna, since I don’t want those older images burned in your mind forever.

And because I get asked this fairly frequently, I’ve never taken a photography class. I’ve read my camera manual and learned how to use the settings, hung out of some great photography forums (ILP taught me the most, by far) and had a great mentor, Emily Weaver Brown.

Welcome, Brenna! {Bellingham Newborn Photographer}

Yesterday afternoon I got to go meet my dears friends’ sweet little baby, Brenna.

I could barely put her down long enough to take pictures. She was just so sweet and snuggly!

Many more photos to follow, I promise. But for now, I have my own sweet little ones to tend.

Apollo XIV is Growing Up

Look at those little teeth! He was so happy to be outside yesterday he was laughing and giggling at absolutely nothing. This picture was a complete fluke. I turned my camera toward him and he started laughing…and for Mr. Serious, this was quite something. I love that you can see how much bigger the teeth on the right are (the first two to come in).

Apollo is now saying "Mama" rather constantly…and has word number two: HOT! Because we heat with wood stoves, teaching a baby what "hot" means is top priority over here. If he sees a fire in the wood stove he puts out his hand and says "haaaa". A few times he's actually said the entire word "hot".

Apollo's hair is beginning to curl, just like Tucker's did as a baby. The females in this house are pretty happy too see that. I pulled out my external hard drive to find a photo of Tucker at nine months and was shocked to see how much Apollo doesn't look like Tucker:

But the curls are evident on Tucker at nine months. I was so sure these would disappear forever with his first haircut…but his long hair at ages 2-3 show I was wrong.

Ah, sweet babies, why do you always insist on growing up?

Today I bring to you Old Photos of My Children. Because they're just so darn cute. Some of you might actually recognize some of these little faces if you've been around this blog since the beginning.

I have two more births lined up to photograph this month and I am so excited. One is a  hospital birth and the other a homebirth. I've had five homebirths myself, but this will a first for me to photograph and I can't wait! The family is all ready and the two older sisters will be present. I photographed the youngest girl as a newborn and can't wait to meet her little brother or sister.

And speaking of births, the mom of the very first newborn I ever photographed is due agian in January. This will her third baby that I take newborn photos of! I always feel so honored when families invite me to photograph their births and their babies.

And what better time to celebrate new babies than the season when we celebrate the birth of Christ! I hope you're having a wonderful weekend.

What’s Up?

Chuck informed me I needed to update my blog, so here we go. I've been photographing newborns:

More photos on my Little Earthling blog.

We went to the beach again. You can read Syndi and Hilary's accounts, since I didn't take my camera.

My boys went hiking, Bridget blogged about that.

We've been making important decisions (more on that later).

And I've been desperately trying to get ready for school- starting  tomorrow.
