The Official LEGO® Channel

It’s no secret we’re huge LEGO® fans over here. We have them in the living and in bedrooms. It’s a rare birthday that doesn’t include at least on LEGO® set!

The other day when the little kids were at school Tilly (14) took over the LEGO® table and re-created Jurassic Park. She had the control room…011713_9307 blog

And here we have Ellie Sattler, Gennaro and Harding checking on the stegosaurus.011713_9321 blog

And my personal favorite (LEGO® creation, not character) Nedry complete with pizza, beer and his bottle of shaving cream!

The amount of detail she put into this was amazing! When she didn’t have a piece she needed, she improvised, something I *love* about open-ended toys. Right now as I  type, five of my children are caught up in their LEGO world, discussing whether or not to call 911 (inspired by the LEGO® ambulance Jubilee got for her last birthday).

I’ve blogged recently about movie watching – how it was a necessity for a while with Apollo. Sometimes to keep him still while tube feeding, we watch short YouTube videos on my iPad. His feedings only last about ten to fifteen minutes, and this way we don’t have to begin a full-length movie- plus it’s been a lifesaver during hospital waits. While YouTube itself can be great, it’s obviously not something you want your kids to have free-range of!

Enter: The Official LEGO® Channel.

My children love LEGO® and love videos. Combine the two and they are sure to please.

What I like so much about the LEGO® Channel is my children can go and watch a variety of videos (from fan made movies to official episodes) and it’s all safe. LEGO is committed to keeping the content clean and child friendly. Mordecai, Hezekiah and Tucker were all more than happy to sit down and help me come up with our very own LEGO Channel Playlist. I really like the LEGO® Stories and the fan videos, while the little boys enjoy the Chima and Hero Factory episodes.

The best part about  the LEGO® Channel is it has inspired Judah (15) and Enoch (12) to create their very own LEGO® videos. I’ll be posting some of those on the blog and Facebook soon. It has been great to see how much they’re learning from cinematography to screenwriting to adding sound effects. Enoch has had his entire bedroom set up to meticulously film scenes with his LEGO®. Do have any idea how much time it takes to film a short LEGO® video? It is simply mind-boggling.

Thank you to LEGO® and Technorati for being sponsors. I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective. All opinions expressed here are my own.

LEGO Creativity. And Spider-Man.

This is the kind messy room I like to walk in and see. LEGO creativity at it’s best. A friend (thanks, Delia) dropped off some hand-me-downs and some absolute treasures: LEGO manuals. Judah (15), Enoch (12) and Mordecai (10) have been busy rifling through our LEGO stash and working on reconstructing some models. Pretty cool.

In other cool news, we have a brand new theater (just opened this week) in our community and they were offering $2 movies for a very limited time. Not wanting to turn down a bargain, we may have skipped school this afternoon and headed out to see The Amazing Spider-Man. Don’t worry, I let the kids involved know that they would make up for the missing lessons tomorrow. Just one more perk of homeschool-hood.

Do you know what today is? Exactly six weeks since Apollo’s second heart surgery. He is now officially out of quarantine (from the heart surgeons, though not his pulmonologist). We can lift him up under the arms again! I even plan to take him to our Christmas Eve Candlelight service if he stays healthy. Apollo never (really, never) goes to church. Chuck and I take turns staying home with him each week.

Last night was day five of no melatonin. He didn’t fall asleep until 11 pm :( He wouldn’t let me turn the light off (I finally did after he fell asleep) and this morning he woke up crying and angry that I turned the light off. Never mind that he spent all night in bed between me and Chuck. I will definitely try to contact someone who can help him with his  trauma. He is now upset about any talk involving: beds, bedtime, doctors or surgery.  A simple google search will show that it is not totally uncommon for a child (even a toddler) to have PTSD after major surgery- cardiac surgery in particular.

Okay, I’ve literally been working on this post all day- life kept interrupting.

Signing off.

Renee

Tucker the Former Thumb-Sucker

Tired of Tucker’s thumb-sucking, Chuck recently told him we would buy him a brand new bike if he would stop sucking his thumb…later that day I overheard Tucker telling Hezekiah  when he got his new bike he was going to sell it to buy a LEGO set.

Umm, clearly Chuck has missed the mark a bit with the promise of a brand new bike. After chatting with him, he told him if he could quit sucking his thumb for the whole month of April, we’d buy him a new LEGO set.

And you know what? He did it!

$49.99…a whole lot cheaper than braces.

The LEGO Store

Our other errand on ECHO day was a trip to the LEGO store for Enoch’s birthday. Enoch is a saver when it comes to his money and both sets of grandparents gave him money for his birthday, so he had quite a wad of cash to spend. It was so much fun to see him carefully examine each set.

He ended up with the mother lode of LEGO sets (the pink ones are for Kalina’s birthday. Don’t tell her…or my friend Emily. She’ll disown me).

Now that’s a LEGO bag.

And this is what yesterday looked like.

Happy Birthday, Enoch!

{By the way, I accidentally hit “publish” yesterday when my post was only half done. I was heading out the door to the doctor’s office and didn’t realize my mistake until I started getting comments. If my post ended rather abruptly, you may want to go back and see if you only read the first part.}
