Instagram Life

Well, we’ve been hit with out first real sickness of the winter. I’ve got some pretty sick kiddos, but man it’s nice now that they’re older. Gone are the days of kids just crying and wanting to be held.  Enoch and Jubilee have been hit pretty hard. I’m pretty sure they have the flu. High fever, chills, lethargy, loss of appetite. Avi and Tucker seem to have recovered for the most part. Hezekiah is mildly sick. Tilly “didn’t feel good” for one day…but she rarely gets sick. I’ve got a cold and Apollo was up coughing in the night. His breathing sounds like a clogged garbage disposal, but he isn’t struggling. He and I both got a flu shot (first time ever, but the flu would be dangerous for him- and there’s nothing worse than mom being sick…) I think we just have a cold…no fevers, etc.

Judah was helping out with a fellow Boy Scout’s Eagle Project yesterday afternoon. He needed a ride and Chuck suggested I come along so we could have a mini-date. We left the kids at home watching movies (they’re under the weather, after all) and headed out. We walked around Fairhaven, like the cool, hip people do. We grabbed some Mexican food for lunch.

Then headed to Katie’s Cupcakes for coffee and dessert.

Back at home Chuck and Apollo had a coffee break. We stayed home from church today…deciding we’d keep our germs to ourselves.

{It has been brought to my attention that there have been some unsavory ads at the bottom of my site recently…I am working on this, I promise. As always, it is a priority to me too keep this family friendly. It should be resolved within a couple of days. Also, I finally completed my “Meet the Kids” page if you are interested in that. I am working on imbedding my Blog Frog community into the blog here, so we can continue our discussions over there without having to leave the page. It is currently unusable, but should be up soon}

Scouts and Honduras

I sent Judah off yesterday on his first high adventure trip with the Boy Scouts. They are headed off for a week or so of canoeing up in British Columbia. Judah has worked any and every chance he got this summer to earn the $300 plus for the trip and all of the gear he needed. Thankfully, my friend Bridget is a Scout leader on this trip and took her camera along. Last night they stayed in hotel and she was able to post about day one of their trip here.

And Adalia has posted part one of her summer in Honduras here

Happy Friday!

Merit Badge Extravaganza 2011

Chuck took our three handsome Boy Scouts to the Merit Badge Extravaganza yesterday. This was Enoch's first year as a Boy Scout and first year to attend.

Judah took: Emergency Preparedness and Citizenship in the Community, and came home with two partials (meaning he still has work to do to earn the badge).

Boaz took: First Aid and Environmental Science and also received partials.

Enoch took: Leatherworking, Space Exploration and Wood Carving. He completed everything but his  Wood Carving…

I was gently warned by others about letting Enoch sign up for Space Exploration. It's very in-depth, requires plenty of research and a good amount of writing. It's a hard one for a first MBE. It's a much more difficult merit badge to earn than a lot of the hands on ones…Chuck and I discussed it and decided, so what if he doesn't actually earn the badge? Let him go, have fun…he'll certainly learn from it. Life simply isn't all about earning badges. So after letting him know it would be a lot of hard work, we let him follow his passion, not an "easier" badge.

You probably won't be surprised (given this is Enoch) to know that he worked hard on this badge. The first MBE session was several weeks ago and he came home with a whole lot of homework. He worked on it every day (remember, this is my kid who I can barely get to  do his daily school work). He built his rocket, spent time on the computer researching, did his writing, his drawings. Everything. He loved it and came through earning the badge. He's one of those kids who often rises to  a challenge, even if he won't do his "regular" work…much like both his parents were.

All three boys (and one father) had a splendid time this weekend. And once again, I am so thankful to have a husband so committed to our boys.

Opus Causes a Stir Part II

Jubilee and Grandma Cindy (my mom)

Opus it seems is vying attention again. Since he was discovered transverse (sideways) at my 35 week appointment, he has made at least three more moves from vertical to transverse. There is no mistaking a full-term sideways baby. Saturday he was sideways again, and while Chuck and I watched a movie after putting the children to bed, he made his slow vertical rotation. This is quite painful because of his size…he got 3/4 of the way turned, then couldn't fit his bottom under my ribs. He had to finish his move in the night while I lay in bed.

My midwife is "pretty sure" he is head down. Not that it matters, since he can turn at anytime. The consensus from yesterday's visit was I need to go in for an ultrasound to rule out any issues preventing him from getting into position. And since I'm 38 weeks pregnant, we don't have a whole lot of time. I'll be calling first thing this morning to hopefully get an appointment by Friday.

In other news, Ezra (18) got a job working in the kitchen at one of our local Boy Scout camps. He will begin that in July. This will be his first job and we are very excited for him. We have two weeks left of school, and are trying to wrap everything up before Opus's arrival. The weather has been horrible and rainy, so it hasn't been too difficult to stay focused on school work.

I have had many requests for an "anniversary post" talking about how Chuck and I met and fell in love. I am considering this. If I get some great surge of mental energy, I'll tackle the job. It'll take some effort digging through photos and records…and effort is something I'm trying to avoid as much as possible these days :)

Well, the sun is out this morning. Perhaps my children will get to break in the Slip-N-Slide, purchased weeks ago, on sheer faith that the sun had to come out sometime!
