These scones are so good and simple to make. You really must try them. I developed the recipe myself after I returned the cookbook with a scone recipe I had made. I couldn’t even remember what cookbook it came from, so I couldn’t check the book out again! I remembered the basic ingredients, and worked with it until I came up with these. These are not your run of the mill- dry biscuit thingy. These are tender and moist and delicious. Way better than the cinnamon rolls, for those of you who tried that recipe.
Preheat oven 425
Sift together:
4 cups flour
2 Tablespoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup sugar
Cut in:
1 stick butter (1/2 cup)
Add something yummy like berries orrasins. Our favorite is dried cranberries, and chocolate chips.
Mix seperately:
1 1/2 cup sour cream
1 egg
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
vanilla
Add liquids all at once, stirring until soft ball is formed. Turn dough onto floured surface, roll out, shape (I do large circles, and cut into triangle peices). Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Coat w/ mixture 1 egg and 1 Tablespoon water, sprinkle with sugar crystals. Bake 10-12 minutes.

This sounds like a great recipe–I will definitely try it. I’ve got a family of five, so may scale it down a bit. There’s a good scones recipe in _The Fannie Farmer Cookbook_ but this sounds better!
P.S. Bake at what temp??
