Well, we have more good, good news over here.
Tilly is engaged!
I thought Jared showed some amazing restraint by waiting a full 24 hours after landing in the USA to propose…good on you, Jared!
You probably all remember that Tilly spent six months in New Zealand recently. While there she met a handsome accountant and fell wildly in love. Thankfully, Jared felt the same way.
I know you probably have a million questions…I will try to answer some while maintaining the privacy of this cute couple!
Jared is an accountant and lives in the northern part of the north island of New Zealand. Ben and Adalia just moved to the very south of the island, so this makes them about 10 hours away. The entire time Tilly was in New Zealand I kept thinking, if I have one daughter in New Zealand, I may as well have two…but I am rethinking that now since they will be living on opposite sides of the island…a very long drive (or an airline flight) away from each other.
And, yes, they will be living in New Zealand. Jared is already established in his career there and it makes no sense for him to come here and start over.
Tilly and Jared met at a church event and began texting and calling. Jared, ever the gentlemen, called Chuck and talked to him on the phone before he started dating Tilly. As it turns out, Ben’s family attended church with Jared’s family many years ago. We were able to vet him and make sure he wasn’t a serial killer.
Just kidding (kind of).
Tilly was able to meet and spend time with Jared’s family in New Zealand before she came home.
Jared has three brothers and no sisters, so I am sure he is thrilled that he is going gain five sisters-in-law overnight. We have not met any of his family yet and probably won’t until the wedding.
Jared has a great sense of humor, which is pretty darn important if he is going to be marrying into our family! He loves to laugh and has found his place in our big, crazy family more quickly than I could have imagined.
He just fits right in.
I have said (and meant) before that I kind of feel sorry for any guy who wants to marry my daughters because BEN! set the bar for son-in-law so high…well guess what? Somehow, Jared has managed to rise up and meet our wildly high expectations.
He isn’t the crazy, spontaneous adventurer that BEN! is…which is good because Tilly isn’t the crazy, energetic, bouncy woman that Adalia is. Jared seems absolutely perfect for Tilly and we couldn’t be happier.
We spent time celebrating at IHOP, the all-day breakfast champion because, yum!
Who doesn’t love breakfast food slathered in fresh fruit and whipped cream???
My kids loved the Fundue (from the new Fresh Market menu) which included five silver dollar pancakes, fresh strawberries and bananas and Nutella!!! Who am I kidding, I loved this combo. Seriously. Fresh fruit and Nutella? I’m there.
Apollo, of course, could have been happy just chowing down on just the strawberries dipped in Nutella…but he had chicken and waffles and Strawberry Lemonade (made with fresh strawberries!) to enjoy as well.
Serving smiles all day!
Hezekiah went for the Fresh Strawberry and Orange on vanilla-dipped Brioche French Toast….to accompany his eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns. Seriously, where to my kids put all of that food???
The waitress was shocked when she cleared out table and saw all of the empty plates. What can I say, my kids, like to eat? Fresh fruit? Yeah, there isn’t going to be any leftovers there.
So, there you have it. It has been a busy and exciting few weeks for our family! if you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments. I will answer them as well as I can without overstepping my bounds and mom and future mother-in-law.
