Tilly’s Rehearsal Dinner and Wedding Prep

The day of Tilly’s rehearsal dinner was a flurry of activity. In addition to rehearsing for the wedding, we had to get all of her decorations down into the garden where her wedding was to take place. Thankfully, she has a circle of friends who worked so very hard to make her wedding day perfect. Her cousin, Arianna (a newlywed herself) even flew up from California to be her Maid of Honor. Tilly's rehearsal dinner was a flurry of activity.

Tilly was in Arianna’s wedding May…they could have been just a bit more efficient and had a double wedding…Except, perhaps, for the fact that Tilly wasn’t actually engaged yet…

Tilly and Jared were saying a blessing over their food…since they got a later start than everyone else.

There was plenty of laughter around our table as these girls made last minute plans…

We have some amazing friends and neighbors down the road from us who are kind enough to let my daughters’ boyfriends from New Zealand stay at their house. I mean, who even needs to ask that of their neighbors more than once? Us apparently.

Anyway, it just so happened that they were away at their church campout the weekend of the wedding, so Jared planned to have all of his groomsmen sleep there the night before the wedding. Knowing the guys would need some good fuel, I went out and bought them a bunch of easy breakfast supplies so they would be well-fed for the wedding.

So…Jared had never had a corndog before! When I served these up as lunch on the day of the rehearsal he said, “These are like sausages wrapped in breading”. Sure, Jared, something like that…Anyway, he was definitely impressed with this American delicacy…Almost as impressed as he was with root beer. Apparently, root beer is also lacking in New Zealand.

BEN! wasn’t a fan of root beer…he said it tasted like toothpaste. When I told this to Jared’s family, they agreed that it did indeed taste a little like toothpaste (though Jared’s family all enjoys root beer).

Now I want to try New Zealand’s root beer flavored toothpaste…don’t you?

Tilly had been in a frenzy of sorting belongings and packing in the weeks leading up to her wedding. Rehearsal day meant it was time to pack those bins for their final destination in New Zealand.

Jared’s parents and two of his three brothers came for the wedding so they were able to take many of her things home with them.

Tilly and Jared were married in a botanical garden which meant everything had to be hauled down to the garden. It was well worth the effort!

Wedding rehearsals are long and boring when you are seven. Thank goodness for modern technology.

After the rehearsal was everyone’s favorite part.. the Rehearsal Dinner. Tilly and Jared ordered a ton of pizza from Westside Pizza and it was amazing. They ordered so much, in fact, we were able to feed all of our extended family dinner after the wedding as well.

I refuse to believe that these three men used to be my babies and my newphew…why do kids have to grow up so fast???

Well, it’s good to be back in this space. I have plenty more photos to share over the next few days…

It looks like a wonderful time! Prayers for everyone as they all settle into their new normal 🙂

  3. Can we just comment on the fact that Judah is reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It makes me feel better about my own reading of it…

    • Ha, those books are great! Judah was also reading a Spanish copy earlier (he has a minor in Spanish).
