I have a rather small crew on my hands these days.

Judah, Tilly and Enoch all work full-time. Kalina is in Peru and Hezekiah and Tucker are up in Alaska visiting my brother and his family. I have been taking my small crew on plenty of adventures. We’ve been to Taco Bell and the library, the lake, friends houses and to the swimming pool.

Our large family loves to swim! Whether it’s a lake, ocean, aquatic center, Great Wolf Lodge or our Intex pool, my kids like to be in the water.

Seeing Apollo happily dunking his face in the pool makes me so happy.

My first crew of kids (Adalia, Judah, Tilly, and Enoch) loved the water…but not in their faces. Adalia, Judah, and Tilly took swimming lessons the first time when they were three, four, and six. Judah literally kicked and screamed through his entire first lesson. Adalia could not bring herself to dunk her face in the water. The kids were fine with playing in the water as long as you did not splash them.

Last summer Avi, Tucker, and Apollo all took Saftey Around Water classes through the YMCA. The best part is they were completely free! At the end of the week, the YMCA instructor told me Avi and Tucker were both safe around water. With her encouragement, I signed Apollo up for a second week. The class gave him confidence and he now has no issue with sticking his face in the water (though he highly prefers wearing goggles).

Mordecai has always been a sensory-seeker and has always loved the water.

All the photos and video here were shot on my Olympus TG-4 Waterproof Camera. Last summer I was really, really wanting to be able to take underwater photos and have a digital camera my kids could use when they go on solo adventures (Jubilee has it this weekend while she is away at a youth group event). After doing a lot of research I decided on the Olympus TG-4.

I love taking this tiny camera to the pool with us…now I am toying with the idea of doing a bit of vlogging here and there. If I were to do a vlog…what would you like to see?

And here you can enjoy a video of us at the pool!

I hope you are having a fabulous weekend.

  1. Glad I watched the vlog – it was so good! It was the first video of yours that I’ve seen that really strongly reminded me of the feeling your photos give. I hope you do more, but I really don’t want to lose your voice on the blog, so I hope it’s a both/and kind of thing, not an either/or.
