The School Play and Pinewood Derby

This last week was an exciting one in our family. Kalina performed in her very first school play. She has done Missoula Children’s Theatre several times, but never in a production like this. She landed the part of school librarian and did an excellent job. It was so much fun to see her in this roll. I told her she did so great being a middle aged woman, she ought to consider being one when she grows up!

Then this weekend was Tucker’s Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. His car was pulled off last-minute (what else?) but raced very well.

Tucker was the only boy to race a pink car this year.

Our pack is awesome: forget the trophies and hand out LEGO sets as prizes!Cub Scout Pinewood Derby

In the end Tucker’s car came in 3rd place and he won this cool Pirate LEGO set! He was so happy. It is tough on the boys who have cars that are not racing well. I am glad that Tucker came out on top, after being the only child not chosen for Missoula Children’s Theater earlier this year. He worked through that disappointment so well. It felt so good to see him succeed in the derby.

Yesterday I met for a writer’s group in the making. Misha who writes a beautiful blog over at The Offense of Joy asked if I would be interested in forming a small writer’s group to encourage, critique and provide accountability for our writing. I absolutely jumped at the chance. As you know, I am wrestling with the huge task of writing my first book proposal and this was just what I needed.  I cannot wait to get this baby done! We were also joined by  Kamille of Redeeming the Table. Yesterday was our very first meeting, so none of us know what this group will become, but I am excited to have deadlines and women to bounce ideas off of!

And finally, I did a family maternity shoot on Friday and a birth late last night (photos to follow on those two).

I hope your weekend was full of family, faith and sunshine. Or at least one of those three!
