Large Family Meal Plans

Well, the computer is being stubborn and refusing to let me upload a photo…so you will all have to suffer through one more day without photos of my beautiful children. Whatever will you do?

For starters, you can click over to Circle of Moms and vote my blog as the best Moms of Teens blog. Then you can peek at my meal plans and perhaps be inspired. Or better yet, leave a comment and inspire me.

Sunday: Tacos

Monday: Taco Salad…along with a salad loosely based on this recipe…but we’re going to add quinoa and leave out the avocados, since we don’t have any right now.

Tuesday: Red Beans and Rice

Wednesday: Grilled Drumsticks and Rice

Thursday: Grilled Chicken

Friday: Homemade Pizza

Most nights we have a big salad…or a plate of raw veggies…or frozen veggies along with our main dish.

What are you eating this week?

  1. I am SO going to make that salad you had the link to…except without the cilantro (called coriander here) because I’d rather eat battery acid. And evidently, I’m not alone in that feeling: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/14/dining/14curious.html

Other than that I am so jealous of you guys in the Americas for ready availability of corn and beans. They are my fave foods of all times (with tomato, broccoli and cheese!) but are seriously under utilized in Aust.

Whenever I have to cook for friends’ kids, I make spag bol. They all love spag bol.

  2. I have no idea what we are having this week. Sometimes I’m organized in meal planning and sometimes I’m not. We did try Quinoa tonight. Out of a box with flavoring but now I know what it is and we liked it.

  4. Hello there,

Am living in Europe and have been reading your blog for quite a while now. Thanks fo sharing your live!
I was just wondering what your recipe for read beans and rice is. I´ve been graving it for a while, but since it is not commonly cooked over here, I thought I´d ask for advice.

  5. This Aussie girl is so bad a meal planning. I do have some ideas for meals this week. We had a small roast of lamb tonight so I hope to cook as follows

Tuesday Miss P’s learn to cook night….chicken enchilada

Wednesday shepherd’s pie from the roast left overs.

    Thursday homemade burgers

    Friday vegetable soup

    Saturday something from the freezer

Sunday we are eating lunch out so will have sandwiches of something simple in the evening.

  6. Tonight (Monday), we had kung pow chicken with brown rice (chicken, water chestnuts, roast peanuts, satay sauce, garlic, ginger, peppers, onion, soy sauce etc).

Tuesdays I am out so it’s home made burger nights. I make the patties and cut up beetroot, tomato, lettuce and grated carrot and my husband finishes them off with a fried egg and putting them together in the bun.

Wednesday night is slow cooker night and this week will be a beef casserole (served with orange juice as one person in the house is low on iron).

Thursday is chicken and vegetable soup

Friday is ‘whatever I feel like cooking’ night

    Saturday my husband cooks

Sunday is roast pork with roast peppers, potato, sweet potato, carrot and red onion and served with steamed broccoli, peas, brussell sprouts, asparagus and corn on the cob all served with gravy and apple sauce.

  7. I cannot like red beans and rice, which is too bad as so many people do. I didnt like them growing up and I am the farthest from picky of anyone I know. I do not eat a lot of meat but most veggies/sides I eat. I dont know our meals this wk, I think husband is juicing so we kinda float along on those wks.

  8. Tonight (Monday) we had BBQ beef sandwiches with rice and carrots. I put a beef roast in the crock pot this morning and this evening I shredded it and my Kalina made the sauce for it. We butchered roosters today and tomorrow is my once a month shopping trip so I’ll put a couple in the crock pot on low and we’ll have that tomorrow with a salad and dumplings. Wednesday I’ll use left over chicken and do a pot pie. Thursday I’ll probably cook pinto beans with fried potatoes and corn bread. Friday leftover beans mixed with tomatoes, corn, macaroni, olives, and mushrooms with a little spaghetti sauce. Saturday and Sunday ???

  9. This week we’re having: Monday, baked mac and cheese with chopped ham, salad, garlic bread; Tuesday, rice and bean burritos, corn; Wednesday, (my mom’s birthday dinner) fried chicken, biscuits, mashed potatoes, green beans and gravy; Thursday, potato soup(I use leftover ham and mashed potatoes in this)and cornbread muffins;Friday, make your own pizzas;Saturday, french dip roast beef sandwiches and salad;Sunday, vegetable soup, cheddar biscuits.
