A New Year a New Blog?

posted in: Large Family | 14

I’ve been toying with the idea of switching my blog to WordPress for quite a while. One of the reasons is so that I can post my photos bigger. So I thought, with the new year and all, I’d try things over here for a while. Please chime in and let me know what you think.

So, Murphy’s Law came to visit our house. A mere two days after I spent hours with the boys sorting they LEGO by color into  our new fancy-schmancy bins, Apollo learned to climb out of his crib. Why does this matter, you ask? Because the LEGO were stored in the  boys’ room where Apollo slept. a fine situation when he was caged in. Not so fine now that he has learned to escape. So, the LEGO need a new home.

And at the moment that new home happens to be our dining room. It’s not so bad since they are all contained in two plastic bins with drawers. And since they were up here, all sorted and handy, Kalina, Mordecai, Jubilee, Hezekiah, Avi and Tucker spent from 8 am to 2 pm playing with them (with a break for breakfast and lunch). My theory is that it is better to have the LEGO up here in plain sight where we can teach Apollo to stay out of them rather than have him be able to climb out of bed and access them in secret.

Another bonus is that since they are up here, I was able to supervise the mess being made. Every hour or so I would have them pick up any pieces that had fallen to the floor and at dinner  time any loose pieces were put back in the bins (projects were stored on our dining room counter). We shall see how long this arrangement lasts.

And we shall also see how well Apollo adjusts to a new bed. Perhaps this will be the key to a night’s sleep?

  1. I LOVE the WordPress look! Not that the Blogger site is bad, but WordPress is so crisp and clean, the photos are awesome, and you are still you ; P
For all it’s worth, here’s my opinion! Go WordPress look!

  2. This blog is beautiful, so crisp and clean and bright and bold. Definite step up.

  3. Looks great – I’ll follow you wherever you go!

  4. very nice. bright and cheery. i say yes oh yes go forward

  5. SO much better – the old one loaded very, very slowly despite our high speed internet. This one was instant!

  6. I don’t know anything about different blog hosts. But I honestly preferred the look of your old blog. With the brown background and three photos at the top. Could you do something similar on wordpress?

  7. Minor point:
“Bellingham Birth and Newborn Photographer documents daily life with 14 children.” <— is confusing at first glance, because it reads like "Bellingham-Birth and Newborn-Photographer …". I recommend either "Bellingham Birth-and-Newborn Photographer …" or "Birth and Newborn Photographer in Bellingham …"

This blog also loaded much faster for me than the other one, although that doesn't affect me much directly, since I usually just read your posts in Google Reader. (In a similar vein, I also like the simpler presentation on this blog, but that also doesn't show up in Google Reader.)

  8. I tried to add this new blog to Google Reader, and it can’t find it. Can you add an RSS button on the side? (I definitely prefer feed readers over email following, and Google Reader says your old blog has 810 subscribers, who would presumably also appreciate being able to follow the new blog the same way.)

  9. I concur with the “loads faster” replies. Looks good. Less is always more in my book.

  10. Love it! Looks very clean, modern and streamlined.

  11. I really like the new look. I love the old one( or the one with the three pictures at the top).
The new look is a little different, but I believe we could all get used to it. I love the updates on your family and being able to be a part of it all(at least it feels like we are all one big family)
Good luck the new blog if you decide to change it. I will continue to follow you with which ever one you choose. Thank you so much for sharing with us all. 🙂

  12. First of all, good for you for compiling your year of Apollo health troubles, and for being pushy. You are doing what you need to do to get your doctors’ attention. Once you have it, things will happen, I hope.

As for the blog, I like the big pictures but would prefer a “denser” text layout — I like having lots of text on one screen so I’m not scrolling to read as much. Can you do that?

Please share your thoughts!
